MTGF

Terms of Use

Last updated April 14, 2026

1. Who we are

MTGF is a hobby project — a fan-made site for discovering, building, and sharing Magic: The Gathering decks. It is built and run in our spare time from the Netherlands by Wessel van der Vlugt and Julian van der Pol on a best-effort basis. It is not a company, not monetized, and not affiliated with, approved, or endorsed by Wizards of the Coast. By using mtgf.net or the MTGF API (together, the "service") you agree to these terms.

2. Eligibility and accounts

You may use MTGF if you are at least 16 years old, the digital-consent age under the Dutch Uitvoeringswet AVG. Users below that age need a parent or legal guardian's consent. You must provide accurate information when creating an account and keep your credentials and API keys confidential.

You are responsible for any activity on your account. We may suspend or remove accounts that appear compromised, impersonate others, or provide false information. You can delete your account at any time from Settings; deletion is handled as described in the Privacy Policy.

3. Acceptable use

You agree not to use the service to:

  • Scrape, mirror, or bulk-export card or user data in a way that bypasses rate limits or other protections.
  • Reverse-engineer, probe, or attack the service or the infrastructure it runs on.
  • Circumvent authentication, rate limits, CSRF protection, or abuse prevention.
  • Impersonate another user or misrepresent the origin of content.
  • Upload content that is illegal under Dutch or EU law, infringes third-party rights, is harassing, hateful, or abusive, or contains malware or phishing material.
  • Use the service in ways that violate the Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy.

4. API usage and rate limits

The MTGF API is offered under the limits documented in the API reference. Current defaults:

  • Authenticated requests: 120 per minute per key or session.
  • Anonymous requests: 30 per minute per IP.
  • We may adjust these limits or temporarily throttle clients that impact service quality. Each response returns X-RateLimit-* headers; respect them.

API keys are issued under the scopes you select and can be revoked at any time from Settings. We may revoke keys that violate these terms, threaten service stability, or are used in a way inconsistent with the scope they were issued for.

5. Content you submit

You retain ownership of the decks, descriptions, avatars, and other content you create ("user content"). By publishing a deck or profile content, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, reproduce, and transmit that content solely for the purpose of operating the service and making the features you enable (public profiles, forks, public links, API exposure) work. This licence ends when you remove the content, except for copies retained for a limited period in backups or required by law.

You warrant that you have the rights to the content you submit and that it does not infringe third-party rights or violate applicable law.

6. Notice and takedown

If you believe content on the service infringes your rights or is otherwise unlawful, email info@mtgf.net with: the URL of the content, a description of the issue, the rights you claim, and your contact details. We follow the Dutch notice-and-takedown practice for hosting providers and will respond in a reasonable timeframe. Abusive or bad-faith notices may themselves be grounds for action.

7. Card data and Wizards of the Coast

Card names, images, mana symbols, rules text, and set metadata are the property of Wizards of the Coast LLC. Card data is sourced from Scryfall and used under the Wizards of the Coast Fan Content Policy. MTGF is unofficial Fan Content permitted under that policy and is not approved or endorsed by Wizards.

8. Service availability and disclaimer

MTGF is a hobby project offered "as is" and "as available" with no warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, uninterrupted availability, security, or accuracy of card or pricing data. It may go down, lose data, or be discontinued at any time. Card and pricing data comes from third parties and may be inaccurate or out of date. Nothing in these terms excludes liability where it cannot be excluded under applicable Dutch or EU law (for example, in the case of intent or gross negligence).

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, and subject to the prior paragraph, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive damages, or for loss of data, profits, or goodwill arising from your use of the service. Because the service is provided free of charge, our aggregate liability in any case is limited to the fullest extent allowed by Dutch law.

10. Intellectual property

The MTGF codebase, site design, database schema, and API specification are the intellectual property of the maintainers. They are made available to you only for the purpose of using the service. You may not repackage, resell, or redistribute the API, its OpenAPI spec, or the site's code as your own product. Third-party open-source components used by the service are covered by their own licences.

11. Termination

You may stop using the service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts, API keys, or access that violate these terms, threaten service stability, are required to be removed by law, or belong to users we reasonably believe to be acting in bad faith. Sections that by their nature should survive termination (intellectual property, disclaimer, limitation of liability, governing law) survive.

12. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above and, where practical, announced in-app. Continued use of the service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms; if you do not agree, stop using the service and delete your account.

13. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms and any dispute arising from or related to them or the service are governed by the laws of the Netherlands, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. The competent court for the district of the first-named maintainer in the Netherlands has exclusive jurisdiction, unless applicable consumer-protection law gives you the right to bring proceedings in another forum, in which case that right is preserved. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.

14. Miscellaneous

  • Severability: if any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force.
  • No waiver: failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of the right to enforce it later.
  • Entire agreement: these terms and the Privacy Policy are the complete agreement between you and us regarding the service.
  • Force majeure: we are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control.
  • Assignment: you may not assign these terms without our consent; we may assign them to a legal entity that takes over the project.
